Special Athletes

Big Bend Special Olympics Team is a new independent Special Olympics team which means that anyone of any age with an intellectual disability is welcome.  There is no longer a Special Olympics team in Alpine ISD for the students in school.  We hope to serve public school kids, home school kids, graduates from the high school team and adults from anywhere in the Big Bend Area.

We are very excited that Sul Ross Coach Sandra Chambers has facilitated a relationship between our team and Sul Ross Athletics..  Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is working with us to support our team.  They are supporting us by volunteering as coaches, providing facilities and helping us fund raise.

We are in the Permian Basin district which has basketball, softball, soccer, (including individual skills events) track and field and bowling.  We are allowed to go to other regions for other sports.  In El Paso, there are a few more sports – tennis, golf, gymnastics, and power lifting.

If you live in the Big Bend Area (Alpine, Marfa, Presidio, Ft Davis, or Marathon), you or someone you know, has an intellectual disability, and you would like to be involved in our team, please contact us!!
